TURF PARADISE QUARTER HORSE MEET RESULTS
September 26 was opening day at Turf Paradise and it started with the trials for the MBNA Juvenile and the MBNA Championship. Finals for both these races will be October 12.
Sunday October 12, thirteen horses remained eligible to run in two trials for the AQRA Turf Paradise Open Derby. Digitman, Chiraco, I Spy a Fly, Faster than Lightnin, Posting the Colors, Easy Paso, First Steps Special, Pueblo Cisco, NnRock N Effort, Sheilas Snow Boot. Were the ten fastest and qualified to run in the finals November 2.
Sunday October 12, the finals for the MBNA Juvenile Challenge purse $41,400 was run here at Turf Paradise with ten head going to post. Classy Make N Money drew clear, driving. Royal Medallion willingly, second best. Policy Statement all out for show. Kays Gun Powder faded late. Snafols Special faded late. Kipas Special steady effort, The Good Boy steady effort. Executing Traffic no mishap. Heartaches are free no threat. Reinforced outrun. They covered the 350 yards in 17:57
Sunday October 12, The 440 MBNA Challenge final was run. Jazzing Chere and the Rush Gets To You from the one and two hole respectfully, dueled to the end. Jazzing Chere for owner Tim Weeks and trainer Chad Ferguson held on gamely to win in a time of 21:50. The Rush Gets To You, for owners Three Amigos and Larry Titsworth settled for second by a mere half-length. The rest of the field finished as follows: Fit to fly game effort, Radium Rays in close, good try. Jerichos Dash willingly not enough late, Comin the Other Way faded late, Heza Hot Hit steady effort, Egos Classic Dash no mishap, Blues Dasher no threat, Royal Dash Effort broke awkwardly crowded.
Sunday October 19, the AQRA Stallion Futurity finals were run at Turf Paradise. Ten horses broke from the gate at 12:55 in 102 degrees with a hearty “and they’re off” by Lute Kruytbosch. The fastest qualifier Oh Corona (owned by Diane Heath and trained by Raul Hernandez) braking from the one hole was out on top with Shakin Ana Dashin (owned by Dale Smith and trained by Wayne Brasher) breaking from the nine hole and the second fastest qualifier on her hip. And that’s the way it finished, one length apart. Running Third was Corona Countess, (also owned by Dale Smith but trained by Raul Hernandez), Fourth Place went to One More Corona (owned by Glenda or Nina Wise, trained by Raul Hernandez), Fifth was Cuz She Can Can Can (owned by Chris Lagerblade and trained by Raul Hernandez, Sixth place was Count Your Riches (owned by Humberto and Katrina Osuna trained by Alejandro Osuna), Running seventh was Sir Garnet Saline (owned by Randy Johnson trained by Clyde England), Eight place went to Duplicate Corona (owned by Jose Holquin and trained Alejandro Sanchez), Running ninth was Laughin to the Wire (owned by Luis Barnett and Ricardo Biebrich and trained by Armando Castellanos) last place was CR Running Laughin ( owned by Clemente Rivera and Russell Kotalik trained by Eddie Tellez)
Oh Corona broke and ran all out to the wire from the one hole, Shakin Ana Dashin went willingly by was out finished, Corona Countess was bumped, One More Corona bobbled, and was bumped at the start, Cuz She Can Can Can , no mishap, Count Your Riches bumped start, Sir Garnet Saline bumped start, Duplicate Corona crowded, Laughin to the Wire bumped start, and CR Running Laughlin broke slowly.

Sunday October 19 was the 870 Challenge and it went postward with six head. Honest Mac from the one hole went to the front and drew off under steady urging. Rush to a Win chased but was no match, Dealem Hi was bumped at the start but still managed to run third, Seeks Joy even effort but no threat, Go Strawfly Go broke out and was bumped and Classies Lil Bro was outrun. Congratulations to owners Larry Stark, Joyce McDaniel and Dale Billings and trainer Raul Hernandez.
Sunday November 2, 31 head went to the post in four trials for the AQRA Turf Paradise Open Futurity which will be run November 23. Jimmy Eat World owned and trained by Ramon Fontes, Jr., was the fastest qualifier with a time of 20:16, Shakin Ana Dashin 20:18, Kays Gun Powder 20:21, Star Six Streaker 20:23, Thrill Taylor 20:25, Blushing Heart 20:27, Dash to First Place 20:35, Corona Countess 20:36, Shur Im Bold 20:39, Apollete 20:42.
The eight horses qualifying for the consolation are: Deal Em Willie 20:44, No Scrubs 20:47, Regalina 20:49, Beduinos Googie 20:50, Royal Berry Cash 20:52, Dashin Straw 20:53, Streak by Embrujo 20:54, Blushing Dale 20:54, One Fast Love 20:54, She Sees Red 20:55. This race will also be run on November 23.
November 2, the Heza Fast Man stakes sponsored by Mike Hastings, with a $10,000 purse going 350 yards, drew eleven head of the nicest older horses, even a couple from out of state. The Rush Gets To You (owned by three Amigos and Larry Titsworth, trained by Clay Sparks) won driving) in a time of 17:77, running second was Knuds Bac (owned by Manuel Orozco and trained by Fernando Ortega), third place was Casady Gal (owned by Reynaldo Pedrego and trained by Alejandro Sanchez) running fourth was Resist (owned by John or Mary Allred and trained by John Allred) fifth place went to Egos Classic Dash (owned by Tim Weeks and trained by Chad Ferguson) sixth was Royal Cartel (owned by Gene and Martha Prendergast and trained by Gene Prendergast) Also running were Ba Ba Booey, Bashincash, Whats So Special and Rare N to Rock.
November 15, The AQRA and 3R Stables teamed up to sponsor the AQRA Triple Crown Stakes Race. . The purse was $7900.00. Crown on the Rocks, (owned by Nataly Chi and Ramon Fontes and trained by Ramon Fontes) was bumped at the start but drew off to win by a length over Make a Chick Run (owned by Delia Cano and also trained by Ramon Fontes) who broke awkwardly and was bumped. Running third was Swordfish (owned by Cray Oakeson and trained by Eddie Tellez) Apollos Touch was fourth (for owner Jose Hernandez and trainer Cesario Olivas) having an even effort. JMB Ceasor was bumped at the start but ran fifth for owner Jim and Margie Bryan and trainer Danny O’Brien, Rw Merri Dash ran sixth for 16-year-old owner Daisha Tolth and trainer Dejuah Tolth. The winning time was 16:02 for the 300 yards.
November 23, the last day of Quarter Horse Racing at Turf Paradise produced three races. The AQRA Turf Paradise Open Futurity Consolation was the first race of the day. Flying Legal broke alertly and overtook. Blushing Dale jostled early was blocked until the deep stretch but showed a willingness to run once clear. Ribs Dusty Bottoms bumped shortly after the break gradually lugged in through his race but was closing the gap. Beduinos Googie fractious behind the gate before the start, displayed early speed then weakened, Regalina lugged in late, Dealem Willie jostled early, checked, Machala, lost whip crowded late, One Fast Love, jostled early, blocked late, she Sees /red, jostled early, forced inward, blocked late. The winning time was 20:48 for the 400 yards.
November 23, the second race of the day was the Turf Paradise Quarter Horse Championship for older horses going 440 yards. The purse was $10,000 Jazzing Chere, broke in stride all out and finished to win for owner Tim Weeks and trainer Chad Ferguson, Toasting the Chick for owner Matt Fales and Trainer Raul Hernandez, chased but found his best stride too late, Radium Rays for owner James Mitchum and trainer Raul Hernandez, closed with a rush. Knuds Bac, chased too late, Bobbys Good News belated bid, First Place Dash, no early speed lugged in late, steadied, Whats so Special no threat, crowded late, Another Sipper, mild late gain, Rush to a Win, faded.
November 23, the last race of the 2003-Quarter Horse racing season was The AQRA Turf Paradise Open Futurity G3, with a purse of $71,500. Thrill Taylor with Dennis Means aboard for owner / trainer Ricardo Ramirez, clocked a very fast 20:17 to win the $35,750 first place prize. Running second by a neck was Jimmy Eat World for owner/trainer Ramon Fontes and took home $14,300, third place went to Kays Gun Powder and $7,150 for Tom and Margaret Bartol, fourth was Six Star Streaker for owner Luis Barnet and trainer Armando Castellanos, fifth went to Dale Smith owned Shakin Ana Dashin and trainer Wayne Brasher, also ran were Shur Im Bold, Corona Countess, Dash to First Place, Apollote, Blushing Heart.
The 2003 Leading Trainer for Turf Paradise went to Raul Hernandez.
The 2003 Leading Quarter Horse Jockey went to Miguel Hernandez.
